Legendary veteran actor Rajinikanth has been in the news lately for his upcoming movie ‘Kabali’ which is set to hit the screens on 22nd July. The movie will be screened in almost 1,000 theatres all over the world excluding India including at least 500 in U.K. and U.S. itself.

In other words, a lot of focus needs to be on the business abroad which includes an unexciting aspect of overseas screening i.e. subtitling. Rekhs, who worked on two National Award winning movies – Kanche (Telugu) and Ennu Ninte Moideen (Malayalam), revealed the intricacies of subtitling in films.
She said that subtitling is not the kind of work that “anybody with a working knowledge of both languages can do”; one needs to “understand and love cinema” for it. The job is especially difficult when it comes to subtitling for the Thalaivar. For example, Rekhs used her expertise when she wrote ‘Kabali da!’ as ‘Kabali, I say!’ in the film she proudly said in a media interaction recently.
