The second film is often where the real test begins for a young director. A debut can become a big success, but the follow-up decides whether that filmmaker has it in him to become a great director in the long run. That is now becoming an interesting question for two directors who came from Sukumar’s school of filmmaking.
Buchi Babu Sana entered Peddi with huge expectations. As a Sukumar disciple who had already delivered a blockbuster like Uppena, he had earned the trust of both audiences and Ram Charan fans. Peddi had the star power, scale, and commercial setup to take him to the next level. Ram Charan’s performance received appreciation, but the film failed to become the commercial success expected from such a big project. Worse, several controversial scenes triggered heavy backlash and trolling against Buchi Babu. Those controversies eventually became a bigger talking point around Peddi than Charan’s performance.
Now, the spotlight has shifted to another Sukumar disciple, Srikanth Odela. After Dasara, audiences could see that he had potential. But The Paradise has taken those expectations to another level. The scale is bigger, Nani is under huge pressure, and the film has created huge hype even without a trailer.
Normally, a trailer is one of the biggest tools for building pre-release momentum. The Paradise does not even have that advantage, yet curiosity has continued to grow through its songs, teaser, and the overall buzz around Srikanth Odela.
Now The Paradise has to prove whether the filmmaker who made Dasara can handle a much bigger canvas without losing control of the writing, characters, and emotional core.
That is where Buchi Babu’s Peddi experience becomes relevant. He had Charan’s trust, a massive scale, and a strong setup, but the film could not capitalize on that opportunity.
Srikanth Odela now has his own chance to avoid the same trap. If The Paradise delivers, he can prove that his growth is not just about making a bigger film, but about becoming a better filmmaker.
