Yash’s Toxic is in big trouble in the North American market after a weak Friday and poor early signs on Saturday. The film collected around $153K on Friday, taking its three-day North America gross to approximately $1.2 million.
The bigger concern is the trend from here. Saturday bookings were reportedly weak, while walk-ins were also poor. Sunday is also not looking any good. With the film struggling to show the required momentum over the weekend, trade estimates suggest that Toxic could finish its North American run at only around $1.6-$1.8 million.
That would be a shocking result for a Yash starrer arriving after the massive success of KGF 2.
The overseas situation is even more worrying. According to trade estimates, Toxic is looking at a potential loss of around $7 million, or nearly Rs. 65 crores, in the overseas market, according to trade experts.
Although the overseas rights were reportedly sold through an advance deal, recovering even a portion of this loss could become a major headache for the producers and distributors. The possibility of compensating for such losses through future projects could also become difficult.
The film had a massive opening in India, proving once again that Yash has tremendous fan power and a strong pan-India market. But the opening in the US was not up to the mark for a star of Yash’s caliber. The extremely negative word of mouth further severely damaged the film. The content was rejected all over.
The current trend indicates that Toxic could end up as one of the biggest overseas disasters for an Indian film in recent times. Let’s hope the film recovers as much as it can with minimal drops in the weekdays.
