Vinayak Joins Vaitla in Retirement, Officially

VV-Vinayak-Sreenu-VaitlaVV Vinayak was considered the best bet to direct a mass commercial entertainer in the 2000s. He delivered many blockbusters like Aadi, Tagore, Dil, and Adurs. Slowly he lost his touch and started delivering mediocre films.

His latest film, Chatrapathi, a remake of the 2005 SS Rajamouli film starring Prabhas with the same title, was released last week. The film was designed as a debut vehicle for Bellamkonda Sreenivas in Bollywood and was even promoted decently. But the film turned out to be miserable and the box office collections have come in lakhs.

Srinu Vaitla is another such director who was a big brand in making hilarious entertainers but lost his touch after NTR’s Baadshah and could never recover. He delivered 4-5 disasters in a row and is now out of work. He has been trying to set up a project for many years but is not able to find a hero and a banner who could invest in him.

There are rumors that Gopichand and Srinu Vaitla are collaborating for a project soon. But there is no official announcement.

There was a hope that VV Vinayak would get a chance to make a film when and if Chiranjeevi decides to do a remake but after the Chatrapathi fiasco that little chance also seems to be gone out of the window.

Sad to see two of the directors who entertained a whole generation struggling like this. The memes and scenes from their films have become a part of our culture. If they were in form, their films would have been still very relevant and money spinners.
