What Is the Film About?
Neha, who is pregnant and expecting triplets, goes missing after a morning walk. A panic-stricken husband, Abhay, is unable to reach his wife and calls the police. When the police officers arrive, Abhay recounts the highs and lows of their relationship, detailing how it significantly changed while they dealt with the pregnancy largely without support from family and friends.
Performances
Kshitish Date mirrors Abhay’s confusions and eccentricities effectively, anchoring the light-hearted drama and humour. Shivani Rangole is impressive as Neha, the pregnant wife navigating this new phase without much family or friend support. Pushkaraj Chirputkar is adequate in his cameo as the police officer. Shubhankar Ekbote, Deeksha Ketkar, and Virajas Kulkarni are passable in their brief roles.
Analysis
Be Dune Teen is comparable to a Budget Padmanabham or Middle Class Madhavan, but centred on pregnancy woes. The good-natured protagonist, Abhay, is a miserly man who maintains a strict balance sheet for every household purchase. Neha continues to work despite her pregnancy. Their world changes when the doctor reveals they are having triplets (a development that leaves them with a bittersweet feeling).
This series provides a necessary upgrade to the familiar family drama premise about pregnancy, giving itself a chance to decode whether our cities or the gender roles in modern marriages have evolved. Though implicit, urban loneliness is a vital theme: Abhay’s parents are absent, and Neha’s parents are no longer around. They are forced to deal with everything alone.
Their support system is minimal; all they have is each other, which naturally translates to excessive dependence and chaos. While Abhay is generally caring, he sometimes loses himself in work, becoming absent-minded and lax. Similarly, Neha’s fluctuating mental and physical health during pregnancy makes her journey far from easy.
The strength of the show lies in its small details: Abhay’s reluctance for a pregnancy photoshoot (not being ‘cool’ enough) or Neha feeling like a mere ‘flower pot’ at her baby shower. The news of triplets starts like a joke, yet the couple is surprised by how the world treats it as a startling aberration.
Crucially, the series avoids romanticising pregnancy. While it is a special phase, it is realistically portrayed as a time of emotional turbulence, the struggle to balance home and work, and the stress of mounting bills; it validates being stressed about trivialities. The episodes are short and sweet, managing conflicts with a pinch of salt and avoiding overly dramatic escalations.
However, the writing could have been smarter concerning the ‘missing wife’ thread, where Abhay recounts the past to the police. While serving as an excuse to frame the pregnancy journey, it requires a stronger conclusion. The problem is resolved too easily, ‘like a walk in the park,’ and the situational humour involving the underdog police officers is underutilised.
Directors Atharva Soundankar and Himanshu Pille understand the show’s boundaries; the 18–20 minute running time per episode is breezy and prevents major bumps in treatment. The storytelling has a simplicity and innocence; it doesn’t aim for depth or try to be overly ‘woke’ or serious. It remains generally relatable by telling two sides of the pregnancy story.
Music and Other Departments?
Sanmeet Waghmare’s music score is just basic and functional, which does not really impact the show due to its crisp running time. Cinematographer Piyush Mahajan works around the limitations of the backdrops, lending the show a fresh visual appeal, aided by the neat production design and appropriate costumes. The writing remains compact, never blowing its issues out of proportion.
