Chandrababu Naidu announces garbage-free Andhra

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has announced an ambitious plan to make Andhra Pradesh garbage-free by January 1, 2026. The goal is to completely remove waste from every part of the state, including Tirumala.

Officials estimate that around 85 lakh metric tonnes of garbage have accumulated across Andhra Pradesh. The Chandrababu government has scrapped the garbage tax and launched a large-scale clean-up mission. By October 2, Swach Sainiks had already cleared most of the waste, and the remaining 30 lakh tonnes will be removed by December.

The Chief Minister recalled launching the Clean & Green programme in 1998, inspired by Singapore’s sanitation model. He also spoke about introducing the night sanitation system in Hyderabad to improve urban hygiene.

Naidu declared every third Saturday as Swach Andhra Day to promote community participation. He introduced Green Passports to encourage children to plant trees and develop eco-friendly habits.

During the Swach Awards 2025 ceremony, the CM praised Tondu Raju from Saluru for his efforts in spreading awareness about waste segregation. He presented 75 state-level Swach Awards across 21 categories and 1,257 district-level awards. Civic heroes and Swach Sainiks were also honoured for their contribution to a cleaner Andhra Pradesh.
