Bhogapuram international airport has taken shape well, according to Union Aviation Minister Rammohannaidu. He confirmed that a trial run is scheduled for next month. The update has raised expectations around the long-awaited airport project in the region.
The announcement was made in Vizag during the Mansas-GMR aviation educity project event. The programme was held at the Radisson Blu resort. Rammohannaidu spoke after inaugurating the project and outlined the progress made so far.
Rammohannaidu said the original plan was to make Bhogapuram airport operational by June, 2026. That timeline has now been advanced. The airport is expected to open from May, bringing earlier connectivity benefits to the region.
He added that several colleges and universities can be established in the proposed educity. These institutions will focus on aviation education and skill development. The government aims to create a strong ecosystem linked to the aviation sector.
The Bhogapuram greenfield airport is being developed as an integrated education and innovation hub. Also known as Alluri Sitaramaraju airport, it is a key project of the Chandrababu government. Developed by GMR under the PPP model, it will serve Visakhapatnam and nearby districts.
