The state of Telangana was left in shock after a tragic bus accident in Chevella claimed nearly 20 lives and left another 20 injured. The mishap has brought immense grief to families across the region.
Among the victims were three sisters, daughters of Yellayya Goud from Gandhinagar, Tandur city in Vikarabad mandal. Their pictures, taken before attending a wedding, are now circulating on social media, breaking hearts across the state.
The sisters were studying at Kothi Women’s College, while their fourth sister, who is married, survived as she wasn’t travelling with them. Yellayya, a driver by profession, had been working hard to educate his daughters. The family remains inconsolable.
The accident occurred when a tipper lorry carrying concrete rammed into an overloaded RTC bus, which reportedly had more than its capacity of 52 passengers.
Leaders across parties, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, and Nara Lokesh, have expressed their condolences to the bereaved families.
Meanwhile, a political blame game has begun. Chevella MP Vishweswar Reddy blamed the previous BRS government for delaying the conversion of the road into a national highway. The BRS countered that highway work was halted due to the election code of conduct.
