YSR Congress Okay…BJP Lost It Too?

Mithun Reddy joins UN delegation amid controversy

Rajampet MP Mithun Reddy, who recently secured bail in the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case, is set to travel to the United States. He filed a petition in the ACB Court seeking permission to use his passport for the trip.

Mithun Reddy will join a delegation of Indian Parliamentarians visiting the United Nations under the leadership of BJP MP Purandeswari. The delegation will attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, starting October 27. Sixteen MPs will represent India at the event.

A list of Parliamentarians attending the session is circulating on social media. The inclusion of Mithun Reddy has sparked public criticism, with many questioning how an accused in the Andhra Pradesh Liquor Scam is representing the country at a global forum like the UN.

Reports suggest the delegation was formed based on the ratio of parliamentary representation, and YSR Congress may have nominated Mithun Reddy’s name. Critics argue that both the party and the Centre should have reconsidered the choice.

Observers point out that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy himself has been on bail for over a decade, which might explain the lack of concern from YSR Congress. However, sending an MP facing criminal charges to an international platform has raised questions about political accountability.

Meanwhile, there were claims that the TDP had no representation in the UN visit, but this is incorrect. Visakhapatnam MP Sri Bharat represented TDP in the first batch of Parliamentarians, whose tour concluded earlier. Mithun Reddy is part of the second batch now heading to New York.
