Congress party regained some of the lost ground in South India by winning the Karnataka election recently, and now, winning the Telangana election. In this context, we could soon be seeing a direct clash between KCR and Sonia Gandhi.
In the TPCC meeting today, Telangana Congress unanimously decided to request Soni Gandhi to contest from Medak constituency in the next parliamentary elections which are just months away.
Incidentally, there is a parallel narrative that KCR is also willing to contest from Medak parliamentary constituency in the coming election. This move is to rejuvenate BRS cadre who are downbeat by the defeat in the assembly elections.
The fact that both KCR and Telangana Congress are contemplating candidature in Medak has become a talking point.
If Sonia really does take up the proposal of Telangana Congress and contest in Medak, in view of the growing prominence of the party in the state, it could be a topic of interest. Previously, Indira Gandhi also contested from Medak in 1980 and won the election.
And if KCR also decides to contest here, he will come face-to-face with Sonia. This election result will put an end to the debate on who bought statehood forn Telangana as the voters will pick one of these two whom they deem fit.
But will KCR and Sonia actually decide to come up against each other directly? We shall see.
