“We Won’t Just Pay and Run!” Lokesh Hits Back at Vizag Union Leaders

Nara Lokesh addresses Vizag Steel tragedy

The intense political debate surrounding the tragic explosion at the Vizag Steel Plant escalated further as Andhra Pradesh Human Resources Development Minister Nara Lokesh directly questioned the approach of specific labor union leaders during a press meet.

Referring to the continuous friction regarding accountability and compensation packages following the industrial accident, the minister expressed severe frustration over the reductive stance of certain representatives.

“The way some union leaders spoke hurt me deeply,” Lokesh stated, addressing the media during an update on the situation. “They keep saying, ‘Just give the money, give the money.’ Does that mean they want us to just hand over some cash, wash our hands, and walk away? Is that supposed to be our only responsibility?”

He made it clear that while immediate financial support is vital, the government’s approach goes far beyond quick payouts to ensure the long-term rehabilitation of the affected families.

The Permanent Job Assurance

Lokesh revealed a critical breakthrough that sets a historic precedent in industrial accident compensation. He announced that irrespective of whether a victim was a permanent employee, an outsourced worker, or a contract laborer, the government is securing permanent jobs for the eligible family members of all the deceased.

“This has never happened anywhere else in India,” Lokesh emphasized. “Minister Kumaraswamy and our leadership actively fought with the central department secretaries to secure these permanent job guarantees.

It is an immense gesture of responsibility, not something we did just to pass the time.” He contrasted this deep structural commitment with a tone-deaf statement made by a labor union representative, who allegedly claimed that the accident wouldn’t have even happened had the government delayed the plant’s reopening packages altogether.

The minister reiterated that the NDA alliance government stands firm on its core values of genuine support and systemic rectitude. By prioritizing permanent employment alongside the extensive ex-gratia packages, the administration aims to give the victims’ families true security rather than temporary relief.

Lokesh’s remarks draw a sharp line between simply settling a crisis with money and actively carrying the long-term responsibility of healing the impacted families.
