The ruling YCP government got a big jolt from the Election Commission (EC) ahead of the polling date in Andhra Pradesh.
The EC decided to postpone the disbursal of the welfare scheme benefits in Andhra Pradesh till the conclusion of the general elections.
AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy intentionally delayed the disbursal of various welfare scheme benefits.
They planned to deposit a total of around Rs. 14,165 crores in the beneficiaries’ accounts just before the polling date to influence the voters. However, the EC objected to this move.
The EC asked the government why there has been a delay in the disbursal of benefit amounts despite the presence of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT system).
The EC further stated that the government is planning to disburse those funds after campaigning and just two days before the polling date. “This will be a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct,” EC asserted.
The EC stated that it would give instructions about the disbursal of the amount of these benefit schemes once the polling ends on May 13.
