For a city that could not make it to the livable cities list, will this be the future? Did CM Revanth Reddy just promise a clean, green Hyderabad? With so much happening in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad was waiting for a gasp of fresh air.
Increasing pollution levels, urban flooding and realty crisis have left the average citizens of Hyderabad vexed and literally praying for the ruling party to wake up to the existential realities of Hyderabad.
In Congress, a CM could remain or change, thanks to the moods of the ‘High Command’. But getting the ball rolling is top priority. CM Revanth Reddy claimed to remain in power for the next 10 years. Finally, Revanth Reddy is being seen and heard at the right places. He participated in the Climate Week programme organized by the Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and in the evening proceeded to Delhi to take part in PM Modi’s prestigious AI Impact Summit, 2026.
Leaving behind political affiliations, CM’s participation is surely a step in the right direction. That said, what exactly can Hyderabad expect. Hyderabad will be net zero city by 2034 and in the next five years, there will be no industries in the core urban region (CURE), according to the CM.
The CM disclosed that Hyderabad stands as the first city in India to have conducted a carbon footprint audit. The thrust was on green energy as else where in the country, Revanth Reddy said. His objective is to contain environmental crisis in the city, Revanth said.
He said his government’s objective is to develop CURE in the area falling under outer ring road. The area between ORR and regional ring road, RRR, will be given to manufacturing industries, the CM said.
By 2034, 34W of electricity will be needed across the state for manufacturing. This means thrust on green energy. To be environment-friendly, the CM said the government was focusing on EVs, introduction of electric RTC buses, extending Metro rail from 71 km to 200 km.
He said they were also invested in Musi Rejuvenation Project and development of green spaces and restoration of lakes across the city. He shared that HYDRAA was created and a special police force has been constituted to protect environment, said the CM.
Should the plans be looked as steps in the right direction or do we need more solar projects and less environmental pollution in reality?
