In a significant boost to India’s private space sector and Andhra Pradesh’s ambitions in aerospace, the state government has allotted 300 acres of land to Skyroot Aerospace.
The announcement was highlighted by IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh, underscoring the company’s growing role after its historic achievements.
Skyroot Aerospace, founded by former ISRO scientists Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka, has already created multiple milestones for India’s private space industry.
The Hyderabad-based startup became the first Indian private company to launch a rocket into space with its Vikram-S mission in 2022.
More recently, it successfully placed a payload into orbit with the Vikram-1 rocket in July 2026, making India only the third country after the United States and China to achieve a private orbital launch.
The 300-acre parcel will be used primarily for rocket manufacturing and assembly. It forms part of Andhra Pradesh’s larger plan to develop a dedicated Space City, with Skyroot positioned as a key anchor investor.
The facility is expected to strengthen the state’s aerospace and defence manufacturing ecosystem, attract further investments, and generate skilled employment.
Nara Lokesh’s post celebrating the allotment reflects the state government’s focus on positioning Andhra Pradesh as a competitive destination for high-technology industries.
With Skyroot already valued as India’s first space-tech unicorn and expanding its launch capabilities, the new base in the state is seen as a strategic partnership that benefits both the company’s growth plans and the region’s economic development.
As India continues to open its space sector to private players, the Skyroot project in Andhra Pradesh marks another concrete step toward building a robust domestic launch and manufacturing capability.
