Keeping aside all the euphoria of the new state, the Telangana government had faltered in its first step. They have approved the Telangana emblem in the first cabinet meeting but now they have got it awefully wrong. The emblem does not have the inscription of ‘Satyameva Jayate’ (Truth alone triumphs) in Devanagari script below the profile of Emperor Ashoka’s Lion Capital as it should be. Instead, the said inscription is present at the bottom of the emblem far away from the Lion Capital.
Experts say this is objectionable and a violation under the State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act 2005. A Haryana-based activist lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding this on Tuesday and the ministry is reviewing it. So, Telangana government may have to make corrections now. The emblem was designed by Laxman Alley, a popular artist from a village in Atmakur mandal of Nalgonda district.
