Rapido Slap Video

Three days ago, a video of an altercation between a woman passenger and a Rapido bike taxi driver in Bengaluru went viral, sparking widespread public outrage.

The footage showed the driver slapping the woman, prompting immediate calls for action. Today, police officially took the driver into custody and registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him.

However, the case has now taken a more complex turn, with two conflicting narratives and a second video surfacing online.

According to the woman, she had booked a ride from BTM Layout to Jayanagar 3rd Block. She claimed the driver rode rashly throughout the journey, ignoring her repeated requests to slow down.

After the ride ended, an argument reportedly broke out, during which the driver allegedly slapped her. She also claimed he told her, “Go back to your country,” raising concerns of xenophobic abuse.

The driver, however, has presented a different version of events—now partially backed by a second video circulating on social media. He alleged that the passenger was the aggressor and slapped him first.

He admitted to taking a shortcut to save time, which he says angered the passenger. According to his statement, she mocked his English and verbally abused him.

He acknowledged making the controversial “Go back to your country” remark, but claimed he meant “state” rather than “country,” citing his limited command of English.

He further alleged that the woman slapped him twice before he retaliated.

Police have registered an FIR against the driver under Sections 115(2) (attempt to cause hurt), 352 (assault or use of criminal force), and 79 (use of obscene language in public) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities analyzing both videos and other evidence to establish the full sequence of events.
