R Ashwin has revealed the India squad he wants to see at the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The former India spinner picked a mix of senior players and youngsters, but his squad also left out some big names.
Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Mohammed Shami and Washington Sundar did not find a place in his main list.
Ashwin kept faith in players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Harshit Rana.
He also picked Ishan Kishan as the second wicketkeeper. Among the youngsters, Ashwin included Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Prince Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Shivam Dube and Gurnoor Brar.
He did not completely rule out every player. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna were placed in the maybe category.
Their chances, according to Ashwin, will depend on how they perform before the World Cup.
The biggest surprise was Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Ashwin believes the experienced fast bowler can still be useful in South African conditions.
He even said Bhuvneshwar should play every available tournament and get ready for the 2027 World Cup.
Ashwin’s squad is only his opinion, but it has already started a discussion among fans.
