Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval, and the news hasn’t gone down well with Indian cricket fans. The absence of India’s premier fast bowler in a series decider sparked anger, with many questioning the reason behind this move. The BCCI’s medical team has cited workload management and long-term back protection as the rationale, but fans aren’t convinced.
Before the series began, chief selector Ajit Agarkar had stated that Bumrah would be used in only three of the five Tests, and that’s how things have played out. Despite hopes that the medical team would make an exception for such a crucial match, they have stuck to their plan. Fans, however, are venting their frustration, especially when they recall Bumrah’s full participation in the IPL without rest.
Social media was flooded with criticism, with users accusing the system of prioritizing franchise cricket over national duty. Comments like “He plays full IPL for money but skips India’s key matches for rest” reflected the public mood. Many believe that if a player is declared fit by coaches and staff, then his absence in a must-win game feels unjustified.
Just a day earlier, India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had claimed that Bumrah was fit based on workload. Even head coach Gautam Gambhir didn’t rule out his inclusion. That contradiction further confused fans who felt they weren’t getting the full picture. If the bowler is indeed fit, why not play him when it matters the most?
With Akash Deep likely to replace Bumrah, India still fields a solid pace attack led by Mohammed Siraj. However, Bumrah’s exclusion has undoubtedly taken some shine off the final Test. The issue is no longer just about one match; it’s about transparency, priorities, and commitment to the team’s biggest challenges.
