The Calcutta High Court has ordered the immediate arrest of Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper batter Abhishek Porel in connection with a rape case.
The court has also directed the police to seize his electronic devices to protect the complainant’s privacy and preserve evidence.
The case was filed over a month ago after a woman, who is a medical student, accused Abhishek Porel of having a physical relationship with her on the false promise of marriage.
She alleged that the two had been in a relationship for nearly three years before Porel allegedly started distancing himself and later refused to marry her.
The complainant also alleged that the cricketer assaulted her and threatened to leak her private photos and videos.
Based on her complaint, Mogra Police Station registered an FIR under several non bailable provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of rape and criminal intimidation.
The court has also asked investigators to secure Porel’s electronic devices as part of the investigation.
The allegations against Porel are yet to be proven in court. The investigation is ongoing, and the legal process will determine the outcome of the case.
