Chennai Super Kings finally got their first win of IPL 2026, beating Delhi Capitals by 23 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
After three straight losses, CSK looked like a completely different side, while DC had a night to forget.
Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to ball first. Batting first, CSK put up a strong 212/2 in 20 overs, and it was all about Sanju Samson.
He played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 115 off 56 balls, dominating the bowlers with ease and maintaining a strike rate above 200.
Ayush Mhatre played the perfect supporting role with a well made 59 off 36 balls, ensuring CSK kept the momentum throughout the innings.
Delhi Capitals made things worse for themselves with a very poor fielding performance.
They dropped multiple catches and missed a few easy run out chances, which proved extremely costly in a high scoring game.
Their body language on the field also looked off, and these mistakes allowed CSK to push the total well beyond what it could have been.
While chasing 213, DC actually started on a strong note, scoring around 60 runs in the first five overs.
At that stage, they looked in control, but things changed quickly after losing two wickets in quick succession.
From there, the innings lost its flow completely as wickets kept falling at regular intervals, leading to a collapse in the middle phase.
Tristan Stubbs tried to hold things together with a fighting 60 off 38 balls, while Pathum Nissanka added a quick 41 off 24.
Stubbs stayed till end and looked capable of pulling off something special, but he didn’t get any support from the other end.
With even one solid partnership, the game could have gone down to the wire, or even in DC’s favour.
With the ball, Jamie Overton made a big impact, picking up four wickets and breaking DC’s backbone during the chase. Delhi were eventually bowled out for 189 in 20 overs, falling short by 23 runs.
This was a game DC lost on their own. Poor fielding, missed chances, and a middle order collapse cost them, while CSK finally got things right.
