India‘s bowlers had a tough first day in Colombo as Sri Lanka XI scored 363/8 in the practice match.
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. KL Rahul led India in place of Shubman Gill, who was unavailable after suffering a finger injury.
Sri Lanka XI made a strong start, reaching 138/1 at lunch. Nishan Madushanka scored 66, while Ravindra Rasantha made 71 as the first wicket partnership crossed 100 runs.
India picked up wickets after lunch, with Ravindra Jadeja, Manav Suthar and Gurnoor Brar getting among the wickets.
But Sri Lanka continued to score runs and finished the day on 363/8 after 90 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav, Jadeja and Suthar took two wickets each, while Gurnoor Brar picked up one.
Kuldeep was India’s most expensive bowler, giving away 76 runs in 18 overs. Jadeja conceded 64 runs from 15 overs, while Saransh Jain went for 54 runs in 11 overs without taking a wicket.
Mohammed Siraj also went wicketless after conceding 44 runs in 13 overs. Prasidh Krishna gave away 32 runs in eight overs, while Suthar was India’s most economical bowler with figures of 2/33 from 13 overs.
