JioHotstar has been streaming the IPL for quite some time now. While many viewers enjoy the mix of entertainment and sports, some users have raised concerns about the limited language options available for IPL commentary.

One user shared their thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that JioHotstar should add Sanskrit to its list of language options.
They argued that it’s high time Sanskrit became a more widely used language in India, and integrating it into OTT platforms could help achieve that goal.

The user also felt that this move might earn JioHotstar recognition and appreciation from the public.
However, opinions on the matter are divided. Many users believe that introducing Sanskrit for commentary wouldn’t be practical, as not many people would understand it.

Only a very small percentage of the population identifies Sanskrit as their mother tongue. Even among them, most are fluent in Hindi.
Some users suggested that instead of investing in Sanskrit commentary, JioHotstar could make a more meaningful impact by including a sign language interpreter, which would make the content more accessible to the hearing-impaired.
Still, a few agreed with the original post, pointing out that if other countries can work towards reviving endangered languages, India should also make efforts to preserve Sanskrit.
The core idea behind the suggestion is thought-provoking. Sanskrit is indeed a dying language, and the loss of a language often signals the fading of an entire culture.
However, OTT platforms operate within strict budgets. It’s understandable for them to prioritize dubbing and commentary in languages that have a broader audience and offer a better return on investment.
