The BCCI is regarded as the richest cricket board in the world. Naturally, players and fans expect high standards, especially in technology, from a tournament like the IPL which is watched globally.
However, the match between PBKS and GT raised concerns about these expectations. A DRS review in the 19th over of the first innings took nearly six and a half minutes, leaving everyone surprised.
Punjab Kings had opted for a review for a wide ball decision. The delay in the third umpire’s verdict created confusion, as such decisions are usually made quickly with available technology.
Broadcasters also reacted to the unusual delay. Aakash Chopra and Suresh Raina made light of the situation, highlighting how long the review process had taken during the match.
Raina joked that Ravindra Jadeja could have bowled two overs in that time. Aakash Chopra added humour by saying Vaibhav Suryavanshi might have scored a half century during the same period.
Fans on social media joined in with similar reactions. Some even joked that match highlights would have been ready before the game itself had finished.
The IPL is one of the biggest cricket leagues in the world. It is followed across countries, and such delays in basic decisions do not reflect well on the overall management.
Small issues like these often attract criticism and unwanted attention. The BCCI may need to address such concerns to ensure smoother operations and maintain the league’s global reputation.
