IND vs ENG: Streaming Giant to Hijack BCCI?

India vs England Test Series on JioHotstar

JioHotstar has delivered a well-placed googly, stumping Sony right through its defences, taking in the digital rights for the upcoming India Tour of England.

While Sony still retains the television rights, JioHotstar will now be the platform where non-TV viewers will have to get their cricket fix, essentially creating a digital monopoly.

This dominance of JioHotstar has become much more problematic ever since the merger between Jio Cinema and Hotstar.

Many cricket fans are worried over the implications this might bring for the BCCI. A monopoly of any kind is not good for any industry, as one organization gets to dictate prices according to its will.

The need of the hour is for other digital platforms like Netflix and Prime Video to step up into this industry and create healthy competition so that JioHotstar always remains on its toes and makes sure that the audience gets the best possible content at the most competitive pricing.
