Chennai Super Kings have suffered a major setback in IPL 2026 as fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out due to injury. The development comes at a crucial stage of the tournament. It has impacted the team’s balance.
Khaleel picked up the injury during CSK’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14. The issue appeared serious during the game. It has now been confirmed that he will miss the rest of the season.
Reports indicate that he has sustained a Grade 2 tear in his quadriceps. There is also damage to the thigh muscle and tendon. He has been advised a 12 week rehabilitation period.
This effectively ends his IPL 2026 campaign. It is a significant blow for Chennai Super Kings, who are still searching for consistency. The team has played five matches and managed to win only two.
The injury occurred in the 17th over against KKR. While running in to bowl the final delivery of his over, Khaleel experienced pain in his right thigh. He attempted to continue but could not complete the over.
He walked off the field and required medical attention. CSK had to bring in another bowler to finish the over. The sudden exit disrupted their bowling plans during the match.
CSK have also been without Mahendra Singh Dhoni so far this season. He was ruled out before the tournament due to a calf strain. His absence affected the team’s early performance.
However, the team has recently gained some momentum with two consecutive wins at home. There is also positive news for fans regarding Dhoni’s return.
Dhoni is expected to be back on April 23 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. His return could boost the team’s morale and performance.
CSK’s next match is against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on Saturday. With Khaleel ruled out and Dhoni yet to return, the team must adapt quickly. Their response in this phase could shape the rest of their season.
