RCB won back to back IPL titles under Rajat Patidar, but the bigger question inside the setup is about the future leadership.
Devdutt Padikkal is now being discussed as a possible long term captain option. The reason is not just his batting form, but how the team management views him.
RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat praised Padikkal’s season where he scored 464 runs at a strike rate of 168.72.
He said Devdutt Padikkal adapted well at No. 3 and kept the team’s momentum going after strong starts from Phil Salt and Virat Kohli. Bobat also called him “very leaderful” and suggested he could be a future captain.
But what does that really mean? Is intent enough to be a captain in a team like RCB, where pressure is always high?
Dinesh Karthik also supported this view, saying Padikkal reads situations well and understands the game deeply.
Rajat Patidar is still the current captain and has just delivered success. So is this leadership talk genuine planning for the future, or just early speculation?
For now, Padikkal’s role is clear deliver with the bat. The captaincy conversation can wait, but it has already started.
