Rohit Sharma has made his television debut with ‘Family Full House with Rohit Sharma’, and the first two episodes have shown a different side of the former India captain.
The show started on September 19 on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.
Rohit is the host, while two teams compete by guessing the most popular answers to different questions.
The show has multiple rounds, with the points increasing as the game moves forward.
Some viewers have compared his comic timing and natural reactions with stand up comedians, while others have simply enjoyed seeing this side of him outside cricket.
The first episode, ‘Mumbai Punters vs Team Vibe’, had Shreyas Iyer leading one team, while Kunal Khemu led the other. Shardul Thakur and Abhishek Nayar were also part of the episode, along with Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’, Sparsh Shrivastav and Vanshika Dheer.
The cricket connection made Rohit Sharma look comfortable from the beginning. His usual humour and casual way of talking were visible throughout the episode.
His conversations with Shreyas, Shardul and Nayar did not feel like formal interviews, which suited the game show setting.
Rohit also shared cricket related stories during the episode, while his interaction with Kunal Khemu brought a different side to the show.
He also recreated his popular ‘Shahri Babu’ dance during the episode, adding one of the lighter moments to his debut.
The first episode also had a personal moment for Rohit. Before the show began, he spoke about how his international cricket debut and his television debut both came on September 19, making the date special for him.
Episode 2 changed the guest list completely. Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia joined Rohit with their respective teams, moving the show away from the cricket heavy first episode.
Sidharth spoke about his early days in Bollywood and his time in ‘Student of the Year’. The episode also gave Rohit a chance to interact with Bollywood guests rather than people from his cricket circle.
Rohit also joined Sidharth and Tamannaah for ‘Thummak Thummak’ from their upcoming film ‘The Vvaan’, giving the second episode a different feel from the cricket focused opening episode.
This is where Rohit’s hosting stands out. He does not try to behave like a typical television presenter.
His casual way of speaking, jokes and reactions are similar to what fans have seen from him around cricket.
At the same time, the guests remain an important part of the show. Episode 1 had Rohit’s cricket friends around him, while Episode 2 brought in Bollywood stars. That gives each episode a different set of conversations and interactions.
After two episodes, Rohit looks comfortable in the host’s chair. There are still many episodes left, so it is too early to judge the full season. But his first two shows have made one thing clear Rohit is still very much himself, even when he is away from the cricket field.
