India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has opened up about his struggle to balance T20Is and ODIs. He admitted that this imbalance affected his performance and cost him a place in India’s ODI squad despite having played 37 matches so far.
Struggle to Balance Both Formats
In an interview with Vimal Kumar, SKY shared that he wants to learn from AB de Villiers. He said he never had a detailed chat with the former South African captain and now wishes to seek his advice on handling both formats effectively.
SKY’s Message to AB de Villiers
SKY said, “If I meet him soon, I want to ask how he balanced T20Is and ODIs. I couldn’t do it. I thought ODI should be played like T20I. AB, if you’re listening, please get in touch. These next three-four years are crucial, and I’m eager to return to ODIs.”
Fans React to SKY’s Statement
Suryakumar made his ODI debut in 2021 and last played in the 2023 World Cup final against Australia. Since then, he has featured only in T20Is. Fans, however, think he should focus on improving his T20 form before seeking guidance from ABD.
What Lies Ahead for SKY
His batting average and strike rate have dipped since taking over as T20I captain. The coming years will test how well SKY can adapt to both formats and whether AB de Villiers’ insights can help him reclaim his ODI spot.
