Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has been suspended for the team’s opening match of IPL 2027 after breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
The IPL confirmed that Tim David was fined 50 percent of his match fee and handed two demerit points for a Level 1 offence. The incident occurred during the 10th over of Gujarat Titans’ innings at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
According to the IPL, David threw an ice bag in the direction of umpire Nitin Menon after a wicket fell.
The act was deemed a violation of Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to throwing objects at or near players, match officials, umpires or any other individuals during a match.
David accepted the charge as well as the sanction imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath.
While the immediate punishment included a fine and two demerit points, the incident carried bigger consequences because it was his third Level 1 offence of the season.
The Australian batter had already accumulated three demerit points earlier in IPL 2026. With the addition of two more points, his tally reached five.
Under IPL regulations, reaching five demerit points results in an automatic one-match suspension.
As a result, David will miss Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s first match of IPL 2027. If he joins a different franchise before the next season, the suspension will apply to that team’s opening game instead.
The disciplinary action comes shortly after a memorable campaign for David and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who secured the IPL 2026 title by defeating Gujarat Titans in the final.
