Madhavan‘s biographical film G.D.N. directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar was released in theatres on August 7th and has received mixed responses from both audiences and critics alike.
Even though Madhavan has returned with this film following the pan-Indian success of the Dhurandhar franchise, G.D.N. didn’t have good pre-release buzz and the makers of the film failed to promote it properly. Consequently, the film was released with low hype and many people were not even aware of its release.
However, viewers and critics who have watched the film have shared mixed reviews. While some claimed that G.D.N. is a decent film and that Madhavan delivered a solid performance, others shared negative feedback.
They suggested that even though G.D.N. contains a lot of unknown information about the late G.D. Naidu, the screenplay is very weak, making the film feel like an information-heavy documentary rather than an emotional story.
Due to these mixed reviews, G.D.N. is now struggling at the box office. According to reports, it has collected only 3 crores worldwide so far. In many centres, the film is heading towards disaster status.
Additionally, because Lokesh Kanagaraj’s DC, which was released on the same date, is receiving positive responses, many theatres that previously allocated shows for G.D.N. are now replacing them with DC.
In response to these poor box office collections, trade experts suggest that if this trend continues, G.D.N. will end up as a huge loss for the production house. They also noted that the Dhurandhar craze did not help Madhavan, as audiences seem to have already moved on from it.
Ultimately, with poor word of mouth and minimal buzz, it remains to be seen how G.D.N. will perform at the box office in the following days and whether it can at least cross the break-even mark in its final run.
