If you’re a student who plans to join an undergraduate program in the UK but doesn’t have enough grades to get into one, you’d be surprised to see how these Indians got a seat at these UK universities. The UK’s department of education is starting an investigation for a back-door route to universities used by Indian students.
Many Indian students are able to secure a seat at these universities with scores way lower than their British counterparts. This has alarmed the department which has found universities using ‘international foundation courses’ to make way for such students with the help of agencies.
The recruitment agents are paid by the university and they identify and enroll Indian students with poor grades and financially rich backgrounds. The agents run a one year pathway course which is a mere formality and allows students to get into University the next year.
The international students end up paying at least 4 times what the locals pay for their tuition and hence universities look for foreign students to sustain. Many MPs are saying that the government wants “Indians to come to take up part time jobs..”.
