Two Israeli women security officers of Indian origin were among the victims of the deadly attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on October 7, according to official sources and community members.
The attack, which involved rockets, drones, and ground infiltrations, was the largest and most coordinated assault by Hamas in its history.
The two women were identified as Lieutenant Or Moses (22) a commander in the Home Front Command, from Ashdod and Inspector Kim Dokraker, a Border Police officer in the police’s Central District.
They died on duty in combat while defending their country from the Hamas onslaught.
The women belonged to the Bene Israel community, which traces its roots to India and has a population of about 80,000 in Israel.
The community expressed shock and grief over the loss of their members and prayed for their souls. They also condemned the Hamas attack and expressed solidarity with Israel.
The attack by Hamas was triggered by the Israeli government’s decision to approve new settlements in East Jerusalem, which is claimed by both Israel and Palestine as their capital.
The attack sparked a fierce response from Israel, which launched airstrikes and ground operations to destroy Hamas targets in Gaza.
