New Green Card Vetting Rules? Lawyers Flag Odd Delays

USCIS green card vetting delays

An immigration attorney has raised concerns about delays in I-485 green card approvals. The claim suggests that new USCIS vetting measures may be slowing down even straightforward marriage based cases. The observation is based on interviews and internal discussions.

The Washington based law firm JJS Immigration reported that this shift began around November 2025. Since then, officers across field offices are said to spend more time documenting details during interviews. This behaviour goes beyond routine note taking.

Lawyers believe this change indicates deeper internal review after interviews. Cases may no longer be finalised immediately. Instead, they could be moved to additional screening stages before a decision is made.

A major concern is the difference in processing between petitions. I-130 approvals are reportedly moving at a normal pace. However, I-485 applications are facing delays, creating uncertainty for applicants waiting for final status.

JJS Immigration also cited similar observations from other professionals. Reports suggest that approvals may not happen at the interview stage anymore. Cases are increasingly entering extended vetting before final decisions are issued.

In one instance, a USCIS officer reportedly mentioned new vetting procedures during an interview. According to the claim, timelines are now harder to predict. This has added to concerns among applicants and legal experts.

There has been no official confirmation from USCIS regarding these specific changes. However, recent indications of stricter screening have drawn attention. The situation continues to be closely monitored by immigration lawyers and applicants.
