H-1B Job Hunt Nightmare: 1500 Applications, No Calls

H-1B worker struggling with job search

A recent post by an H-1B worker has highlighted the challenges many Indian professionals are facing in the US job market. The individual shared a difficult job search experience, describing months of effort with little success despite extensive applications.

According to the post on Reddit, the Data Engineer applied for more than 1,500 jobs across the United States over the past several months. Despite the large number of applications, the worker claimed that not a single recruiter reached out for an interview or initial discussion.

The professional stated that he has spent more than three years working in Ohio on an H-1B visa. During that time, he reportedly gained experience in building data pipelines, working with cloud technologies and maintaining production-level systems.

The situation became more stressful after his current employer allegedly decided not to renew his H-1B application. As a result, the worker was forced to begin an urgent search for a new employer willing to provide sponsorship.

According to the post, the most frustrating aspect has been the complete lack of responses from employers. The worker said he remains uncertain whether the silence is due to the competitive job market, visa sponsorship concerns, location-related factors or a combination of multiple issues.

The experience reflects concerns shared by many Indian professionals working in the United States under employer-sponsored visas. While hiring activity continues in certain technology sectors, many applicants have reported increased competition and reduced opportunities for candidates requiring visa sponsorship.

The Data Engineer described feeling exhausted and discouraged by the current employment environment. Despite having several years of professional experience in the US, he said he never expected to face such significant challenges while searching for a new opportunity.

As uncertainty continues in parts of the technology job market, stories like this underline the pressure faced by H-1B workers whose immigration status and employment prospects are closely connected. The worker is now seeking referrals, networking support and potential job leads to continue his career in the United States.
