An IIT Madras graduate has been missing in the United States for five days. The search for Saketh Sreenivasaiah has intensified as authorities continue operations.
Saketh, a 22 year old postgraduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, was reported missing earlier this week. He was last seen on February 9 near the 1700 block of Dwight Way in Berkeley.
The San Francisco Police Department has classified him as an at risk person. Search efforts have now entered the fifth day.
Investigators were alarmed after discovering his backpack in a nearby neighbourhood. The bag reportedly contained his passport and laptop. This development raised further concern among officials.
Authorities have deployed drones, K 9 units and ground teams. Despite extensive efforts, there has been no confirmed breakthrough so far.
The Consulate General of India, San Francisco has said it is in regular contact with local authorities and the family. Relatives in Karnataka have organised prayer meetings for his safe return.
There are unconfirmed reports suggesting that Saketh may have been emotionally distressed before he went missing. Officials have not verified these claims. They have urged the public to share any information that may help locate him.
The case continues to draw attention in both India and the United States. Authorities remain hopeful of a positive update in the coming days.
