Indian American Hits Win Hat-trick In Election!

Tuesday morning saw Vin Gopal, an Indian origin American winning third term in the New Jersey Senate. His reelection for the third time comes as he defeated Republican Steve Dnistrian with a total of 32,772 votes, garnering a 58 percent vote share under his name.

Gopal, the much beloved senator secured a significant victory by focusing his campaign on key issues like abortion, tax relief and increased school funding. Emphasizing the need for unity and political decorum, Gopal is not the only Indian American who was elected for the chance of providing the nation with his service as fellow candidates Neil Makhija, Kannan Srinivasan and Suhas Subramanyam also won key elections. 37-year-old Makhija got elected as Montgomery County’s commissioner while Srinivasan and Subramanyam made news by being elected as the delegates of District 26 and 87 of Virginia respectively. Just like Gopal, all the fellow companions belong to the Democratic party and have now won significant battles for them.

The contest was one of the most expensive legislative races in state history and as per the stats provided by the nj.com news portal funds amounting to USD 3.4 million were raised by the Democrats and they spent USD 3.5 million. Gopal attributed his success to his constituent services and bipartisanship, exclaiming, “You all tonight made history!” after the results were announced. Born and raised in New Jersey, Mr. Gopal holds a master’s in public administration from Rutgers University and a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and has previously served on the Board of Directors for the then-Monmouth County Chamber of Commerce and was also President of the Hazlet Township Business Owners Association.
