Indian Techie Sexual Crime Case in Canada: Shocking Twist

Canada assault case Indian origin accused

A serious case involving an Indian-origin man in Canada has raised concerns not just about personal safety, but also about gaps in the legal system.

The accused, identified as H.B., had been living in Canada for nearly seven years after moving there as a student and later working as a software developer. The victim, also of Indian origin, had relocated to Canada in 2022 and was working in the IT sector.

The two met through the dating app Bumble in December 2022. What began as a seemingly normal connection soon turned into a disturbing situation. According to court findings, the man repeatedly sexually assaulted the woman during the course of their relationship. The judge described some of the acts as brutal and degrading, noting that the accused would punish her sexually when he was angry.

The case also involved elements of coercion and extortion. He allegedly threatened to leak her private photos if she refused to comply. Being new to the country, the victim was particularly vulnerable, and the accused reportedly exploited that, claiming he understood the legal system well enough to avoid consequences.

After a full trial, the court found him guilty on October 30, 2025. However, in a shocking development, he fled the country just one day later, before sentencing could take place. Travel records suggest he crossed into the United States and then flew to Switzerland, with further plans indicating movement toward Abu Dhabi, possibly to evade tracking.

Despite his absence, the court proceeded with sentencing on April 8, 2026, handing him a seven-year prison term. The judge clearly stated that this was not an accidental absence, but a deliberate attempt to escape justice.

The case highlights two major issues. The first is the exploitation of trust in personal relationships, especially involving individuals new to a country. The second is the loophole that allowed a convicted individual to leave the country so easily after being found guilty.

Now, the focus shifts to international cooperation. Bringing him back will depend on coordination between multiple countries, a process that is often complex and time-consuming.
