Traumatic Racial Abuse Of Indian Origin Man

Indian Origin Man Abuse

Jarnail Singh, a Sikh restaurateur residing in Hobart, Tasmania, has come forward with disturbing allegations of racial targeting, including instances of derogatory graffiti and dog excrement being smeared on his car. The incidents have reportedly occurred repeatedly over the last two to three months, leaving Singh deeply distressed.

Singh, who has been living in Australia for 15 years, with the last decade spent in Tasmania, expressed the mental toll of being targeted with racial slurs. “It’s mentally very stressful when it comes to your house, and particularly (being targeted) with your name on it… It’s too much mental stress. Something has to be done,” he conveyed to ABC News.

The first incident involved dog excrement being smeared on the door handles of Singh’s car for four or five consecutive days outside his home. Subsequently, racist graffiti appeared in his driveway, with the message, “Go home, Indian.” Despite reporting the matter to the police, little progress has been made due to the lack of video evidence.

Singh emphasized the unprecedented nature of these attacks, stating, “Never, ever has this happened to me before, and it’s been continuous over the last two, three months.”

Tasmania Police Commander Jason Elmer acknowledged the incidents, assuring that they are actively being investigated. Commander Elmer emphasized that current legislation allows courts to consider racial motivation as an aggravating factor in sentencing. He unequivocally stated, “There is no excuse for any form of verbal or physical harassment in the community,” urging victims to contact the police immediately if they believe they have been subjected to prejudice-related incidents.

As the investigation unfolds, the community is left grappling with the unsettling reality of racially motivated targeting, prompting a broader conversation about fostering inclusivity and combating discrimination in Australia.
