The teaser for Amazon Prime’s latest film, Stolen, just dropped—and Abhishek Banerjee is stealing all the spotlight.
Written and directed by Karan Tejpal, the film has serious credibility, backed by executive producers Anurag Kashyap, Kiran Rao, Nikkhil Advani, and Vikramaditya Motwane.
The story follows Gautam (played by Abhishek Banerjee) and Raman (Shubham), who witness a baby being kidnapped from an impoverished mother at a railway station.
Set in the Indian hinterlands, the film explores powerful themes like motherhood, class disparity, and growing apathy with the system.
Stolen has already earned praise at top-tier film festivals, including Venice 2023, BFI London, and IFFM, and is now slated for an OTT release on June 4, 2025.
In a truly career-defining moment, Abhishek received a five-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival for his gripping portrayal of Gautam.
Known for his standout roles in Stree, Mirzapur, and especially Paatal Lok, where he played the terrifying Hatoda Tyagi, Abhishek has consistently proven his range.
But unfortunately, his talent has often been confined to side characters, leaving audiences wanting more.
Abishek’s journey began with Bhati in TVF’s Pitchers (2015), a performance that earned him early recognition.
He then brought laughs in Stree with his impeccable comic timing, despite limited screen time. Yet it was Paatal Lok that truly showcased his ability to play intense, layered characters.
With Stolen, Abhishek makes a bold leap into leading roles—and owns it.
This long transition has raised the question: when will mainstream Bollywood truly recognize talents like Abhishek Banerjee and offer them the space they deserve on the big screen?
As the industry struggles to bring something fresh, maybe it’s time they stopped looking elsewhere—and took a hard look at what is already right in front of everyone.
