Kajol’s highly anticipated film MAA has hit the big screen, and the internet is already buzzing with controversy alleging that the film used AI for some of its horror scenes instead of traditional VFX.
However, so far there is no verified instance where AI technology has been used in any Hindi films. The initial reaction of accusing MAA of using AI stems from the reality that the VFX in the film didn’t feel like any previously done visual effects.
Fans complain that while the VFX was brilliant in some scenes, it largely remained inconsistent throughout most of the film. Many noted that it fell short of the high standards set by other movies from the same genre.
While there’s no official confirmation from the makers, the speculation has intensified with Ajay Devgn’s announcement of becoming the chairperson for the AI-driven media, Prismix, which aims to merge creativity with advanced AI technology.
This conversation has turned into a heated debate online, with fans questioning what might be the future of filmmaking if producers started to rely on AI to cut costs.
If the rumors were to be believed, and if Bollywood is truly adapting AI in filmmaking, the future of Bollywood cinema will cease to exist as we know it today.
AI tools have already been introduced in post-production systems and can allegedly reduce editing time by 40% while also efficiently creating complex visual effects without pinching the pockets.
This raises a lot of concern for traditional artists who’ve spent their lives trying to learn the craft of filmmaking and editing.
Many believe AI isn’t art, as it cannot possibly replicate the feel of human touch and understanding. But that might not be the case as we approach the future, as newer AI-generated content is almost indistinguishable from reality.
The growth of AI systems is unstoppable. Almost every new development inches us closer to the day when production houses might opt for them as the audience becomes more content savvy.
While there’s no reality to the claims, the questions it has raised are serious. Bollywood, as well as production houses, needs to have stricter rules for the use of these tools on creative projects.
