
The Indian box office bounced back in April 2025 with a total of ₹825 crore, after a dull March.
The star of the month was undoubtedly the Tamil film Good Bad Ugly which not only ruled the South Indian market but also beat big Bollywood films like Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 and Sunny Deol’s Jaat.

According to an Ormax Media report, Good Bad Ugly starring Ajith Kumar raked in ₹183 crore, the highest grossing Tamil film of the year so far.
This action entertainer directed by Adhik Ravichandran has proved that content is language agnostic and has appealed to audiences across India and abroad.

Another notable performer was the Malayalam film Thudarum starring Mohanlal which collected ₹148 crore at the domestic box office.
Note that this figure is only for the Malayalam and Telugu markets as the Tamil version was released in May 2025.

While Kesari Chapter 2 (₹107 crore) and Jaat (₹103 crore) crossed the ₹100 crore mark, Good Bad Ugly shows that the Indian film industry is changing.
The total box office for 2025 films now stands at ₹3,691 crore, a 19% growth compared to the same period last year.
Looks like 2025 is going to be a good year for Indian cinema with diverse regional content and pan India appeal.
