Recent speculation around Alpha left Bollywood fans confused, with reports suggesting a direct OTT release. The film stars Alia Bhatt and is part of the YRF Spy Universe.
According to insider chatter, the makers were initially expecting Mardaani 3, starring Rani Mukherjee, to strengthen the female-led action space before Alpha’s release. This was reportedly a strategic move by Aditya Chopra.
However, the poor box office performance of Mardaani 3 and the lukewarm response to recent YRF Spy Universe films like War 2 caused setbacks. This led to Alpha’s theatrical release being temporarily put on hold.
Alpha was originally scheduled for release on December 25, 2025. In November 2025, YRF announced its first delay, citing extensive post-production and VFX work to ensure a visually immersive cinematic experience.
A second delay followed in late December 2025. The film was postponed indefinitely from its revised April 17, 2026 date to avoid a direct clash with Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan.
With no new date announced, speculation grew that Alpha might head directly to OTT. These rumours intensified due to the recent struggles of the YRF Spy Universe at the box office.
However, a report by Pinkvilla has put these rumours to rest. The report confirms that Alpha is firmly planned for a theatrical release in the third quarter of 2026.
Sources also revealed that the team is wrapping up its final shooting schedule at YRF Studios. The cast includes Alia Bhatt, Sharvari Wagh, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor.
The final schedule is expected to conclude by next week. After this, the makers are likely to officially announce the confirmed theatrical release date.
Despite earlier setbacks, trade circles believe Alpha could revive interest in female-led spy thrillers. The makers remain committed to bringing the film to theatres, dismissing all speculation of a direct OTT release.
