Vetrimaaran’s Latest in Bollywood: Bigger Outrage?

Bad Girl film Hindi release event

Vetrimaaran-backed Bad Girl has stirred strong reactions since its release. The film offended certain communities, which added fuel to the controversy. Despite the attention, its box office run in Tamil Nadu earlier this month earned only ₹0.57 crores.

Now, the team is preparing for a Hindi version. Filmmaker Anupama Roy has joined the project, which will be presented by Vetrimaaran and Anurag Kashyap. A launch event in Mumbai is planned, with both Anupama and Anurag expected to attend.

Sources revealed that Anupama was deeply impressed after watching the film. She praised director Varsha Bharath and her team, calling the work a union of sharp and fearless female voices that dared to tell an uncompromising story.

The event will showcase the powerhouse female talent of the film, with Anupama sharing the stage. Leading the cast is Anjali Sivaraman, whose performance as Ramya, a teenager exploring love and desire in Chennai, has been called career-defining.

The film offers a striking coming-of-age narrative told through bold Indian storytelling and unique visual style. Alongside Anjali, the cast includes Shanthipriya, with music by Amit Trivedi adding to its impact.

The Hindi version aims to bring Ramya’s story to a wider audience. With Anupama Roy’s backing and Anurag Kashyap’s support, the team hopes its themes of identity and desire will connect with viewers across India and beyond.

Yet the question remains whether the controversy that surrounded its Tamil release will grow louder with the Hindi version. For now, cinephiles across the country are waiting to watch Bad Girl in theatres.
