Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, is currently doing exceptional business at the Indian box office. The film continues to post strong numbers and is setting new records every day.
However, the makers are facing a major setback overseas. Dhurandhar has been banned in the Gulf countries, which has raised serious concerns about lost revenue from international markets.
The Gulf region plays a crucial role in overseas collections for Indian films. Big releases like Jawan and Pathaan previously earned over 100 crores from these territories.
Trade analysts believe Dhurandhar could have earned nearly 50 crores if it had been released in the UAE-GCC region. The film is currently enjoying massive popularity, which further adds to the missed opportunity.
So far, Dhurandhar has collected over 151 crores from foreign markets. If it had released in the Gulf, overseas earnings were expected to rise by nearly 30 percent.
With the current dollar rate hovering around Rs. 90, the film could have earned around 45 to 50 crores from the UAE alone. Additional contributions from GCC countries could have added another 10 percent.
In total, the ban is estimated to have cost the makers nearly 55 crores. This has resulted in a significant loss of potential box office revenue.
Despite the setback, Dhurandhar continues to perform strongly in India. It remains to be seen how the film sustains its momentum across domestic and remaining overseas markets.
