The buzz around Housefull 5 is hard to ignore. Touted as India’s first fifth film in a comedy franchise, it’s being marketed with bold promises, multiple endings, a huge star cast, and a nostalgic trip for longtime fans.
Director Tarun Mansukhani’s recent interview with Galatta India offers an honest peek behind the curtain. But does the film live up to the noise, or is it more style than substance?

One of the more talked-about elements is the idea of multiple endings. While it sounds exciting, especially for a comedy caper, Tarun revealed that the original plan of five climaxes was trimmed down to two.
That’s a big drop and raises questions about whether production limitations or creative hurdles forced a change in vision. Telling the audience beforehand which ending they’ll get is certainly different, but it also feels like a move to boost ticket sales rather than elevate the storytelling.

The cast, full of familiar faces like Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, and Jackie Shroff, is a major draw. But with so many actors sharing screen time, there’s always the risk of overcrowding and underdevelopment of characters.
While Tarun insists things went smoothly on set, anyone familiar with ensemble films knows that managing so many stars isn’t always easy.

Then there’s the script. Tarun’s remark that “even a bad script takes two years to write” is interesting. It could either suggest a lot of effort was poured into this one—or that expectations should be tempered.
In the end, Housefull 5 seems to be banking on nostalgia, star power, and marketing tricks. Whether that’s enough to make it work remains to be seen.
But given the franchise’s track record, writing it off too soon might be a mistake. Sometimes, a familiar laugh is all the audience wants.
