IIFA Awards: Katrina, Shraddha, Arjun; Seriously?

This year’s IIFA Awards event is all set to be held in the popular pink city of India, Jaipur. Notably, the full list of nominations is out now and there is no doubt that talented faces have managed to grab a spot for themselves in different categories.

Unfortunately, it is surprising that a few films and personalities were able to get themselves nominated despite not having a lot of work to do in their respective projects.

What is Katrina Kaif doing in the category of performance in a leading role (female) for Merry Christmas? The film was a big disaster despite being made by a genius like Sriram Raghavan. While the reviews were positive from critics, the public opinion was completely mixed as it did not match up to the standards of Sriram’s previous films.

In the same category, there is Shraddha Kapoor for Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank. There is no doubt that the actress was praised for her beauty and performance on screen. But everyone is well-aware that her character had limited screen appearance compared to others.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 has also managed to get three nominations. The film was undoubtedly a blockbuster but it was not up to the mark compared to the original.

The horror comedy’s director Anees Bazmee has been nominated in the direction category but frankly, BB3 is one of his weakest films so far.

The comedy was very over-the-top, and Rajpal Yadav, who has received a nomination for performance in a supporting role (male), was playing a character that was unnecessary and not needed at all.

The same thing can be said for Vidya Balan, nominated for performance in a supporting role (female).

The actress gave her best when she played Avni/Manjulika in the first film. But in the third part, she gave a very underwhelming performance, seemingly in a hurry or excitement for getting the chance to play the role again.

Similarly, Arjun Kapoor does not deserve to get a nomination for the best negative role. His character in Singham Again was not intimidating, the film was missing all the elements of a commercial entertainer, and more than that, Arjun was looking very weak as a villain in front of so many big stars.
