Imtiaz Ali

Imtiaz Ali has recently announced his new film that will feature Vedang Raina, Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, and Sharvari in the lead roles. Shooting is supposed to start in August this year, with the film arriving in theatres by Baisakhi 2026.

The film is expected to focus on the emotional complexities of human connection, and this is expected to make an impact on the minds and hearts of the audience.

Imtiaz Ali said that the new film will be very personal despite being set on a huge canvas. He mentioned that the basic premise will be based on a boy and a girl, and a quote by poet Momin is also playing an important role.

Furthermore, Imtiaz is also bringing A.R. Rahman on board to compose the songs of the film, marking another collaboration of the duo after Rockstar, Highway, and Tamasha. All three films were directed by Imtiaz. Imtiaz has also promised to bring a film with music that will stay with everyone forever.

Although the film is not titled yet, it is creating headlines for another reason. Notably, David Dhawan’s upcoming film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, is also releasing on the same day i.e. Baisakhi 2026.

Both films are expected to be of the same genre, and the only difference will be that David Dhawan will add more comedy and masala elements into his film.

Imtiaz and David have been struggling to impress the audiences on the big screen. Imtiaz’s last film that was released in theatres was Love Aaj Kal in 2020, which failed at the box office. David is also returning as a director six years after his last film, Coolie No. 1, which arrived directly on OTT.

Both films received a negative response, and it seems like the duo has made different kinds of preparations this time to ensure that the audiences are not disappointed. David’s film will also feature Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in the lead.

With a similar theme for Imtiaz’s untitled film and Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, it will be interesting to see which one of them will emerge as a winner at the end of their theatrical run.
