The death of Sunjay Kapur, business tycoon and former husband of Karisma Kapoor, has sparked more than grief. Yes, if reports are to be believed, it has now ignited a full-blown war over the Kapur family empire.
In a sensational letter to Sona Comstar’s board, Rani Kapur, Sunjay’s mother and majority shareholder, alleged she was coerced into signing documents behind locked doors and also stripped of account access.
In her words, she is left to “the mercy of a select few”, a pointed reference to Sunjay’s wife Priya Sachdev.
While the board remains tight-lipped, Rani Kapur’s claims suggest a hostile takeover of sorts, just weeks after her only son’s sudden death during a polo match in London on June 12.
Sources say the AGM agenda shockingly includes installing Priya (or her allies) as “family representatives” without the consent of Sunjay’s mother.
This modern-day Mahabharat finds echoes in Sunjay’s past too. His turbulent marriage with Karisma Kapoor was marred by allegations of emotional neglect and a lifestyle mismatch.
Suneel Darshan, who directed the actress in films like Jaanwar, Ek Rishtaa, and Mere Jeevan Saathi, spoke about her struggles in a recent interview.
He revealed that Karisma’s marriage with Sunjay was marked by deep emotional and cultural disconnect. In fact, Karisma was friends with Sunjay’s sister did not have any romantic feelings for him.
Darshan further said, “They were never a couple in the beginning. It was an abrupt decision to marry him. ” He also added that Karisma’s split from Abhishek Bachchan was also sudden.
Karisma, who was seeking peace and family life, once felt reduced to a “trophy wife” in Sunjay’s lavish Delhi circle.
In Darshan’s words, “She didn’t want to play golf on weekends, she wanted to be with her children.”
Eventually, Karisma and Sunjay called it quits and divorced mutually in 2016.
Now, as the boardroom burns and secrets unravel, the Kapur legacy stands at the crossroads of power, property, and deeply personal betrayals.
