First ‘Adult’ Film in 7 Years: Will BO Curse Break?

Rajkummar Rao Maalik Box Office

Rajkummar Rao’s Maalik is all set to arrive in theatres on July 11, 2025. The censorship work was completed a few days ago on July 4, and it has received an A (Adults Only) certificate from CBFC.

CBFC has made changes to two dialogues, starting with the replacement of Lallan ghar chod dega tujhe. While the other cuts issued by the CBFC remain unknown, they had left the action scenes untouched, which means that everything that has been shot by the makers will be seen on screen.

The final length of the film is said to be 152.17 minutes, which means that the film will run for almost 2 hours, 32 minutes, and 17 seconds. Notably, Maalik is Rajkummar Rao’s first A-certified film in around seven years.

Back in 2018, Rajkummar had two A-certified releases, Omerta and Love Sonia. While both of them received a lot of praise from critics and audiences, they failed to make an impact at the box office. Now the reviews for the first day first show of Maalik will decide its fate.

Maalik has not created enough buzz as per expectations. While a section of the audience appreciates the fact that Rajkummar Rao is trying something new, there are also some who want to see him play the roles of a middle-class family man.

Maalik has to now depend on positive word-of-mouth if it is to become a hit at the box office. The teaser and trailer had a lot of elements that looked entertaining.

But eventually, the main backbone of the film is its story and screenplay, and the biggest question right now is whether these two things will work in favor of Maalik.

Rajkummar Rao has also been one of those actors who is focusing more on quantity than quality. If Maalik turns out to be a flop, the actor has to take a break and see what’s going wrong. Let’s wait for the public reactions on July 11 to see if Maalik has left an impression.
