Maddock Films has built a strong identity in Bollywood. Almost every movie carries a quirky side character for comic relief, a guaranteed item song, and an entertainer package designed to attract audiences.
Fans have accepted this formula, as Maddock stands for fun, humour, and a little spice. From Stree to Bhediya and now the teaser of Thama, their horror-comedy universe thrives on a clear mix of scares, comedy, and catchy music.
Ironically, it is the YRF Spy Universe films that face the most trolling. The moment a bikini scene or glamour shot appears in a trailer, social media outrage begins, labelling it “cheap thrills” or “fallen standards.”
However, audiences rarely criticise when an unnecessary item song or exaggerated comic sidekick appears in a Maddock film. These elements are easily accepted as part of the Maddock style.
This shows a clear double standard. Horror-comedies are excused as pure entertainment, but spy thrillers are expected to offer seriousness, realism, and sophistication.
When the same crowd-pleasing tricks appear in spy thrillers, they are dismissed as forced or cringeworthy. In reality, Maddock follows the same creative formula across genres. The difference lies in audience expectations, which is why trolling unfairly targets the Spyverse.
